  • There had been some discussion some time ago about relieving the congestion at the VV plant. I propose this:

    Send out all the current hoppers at VV to another destination, with the exception of retaining 30 for the current cycle. Im not sure if the TD3 information has any outbounds from VV but the current exchange program isn't working. We bring in 96 every cycle and take out 30.

    If we increase the traffic to three turns, then the numbers balance. 96 in each cycle and 90 out each cycle. Makes much better sense and utilizes the industry in a much better manner.

    Another factor here might be  to factor in coal traffic (loaded to the plant - mty outbound). This would increase the traffic to/from the plant and utilize the industry much better

    • Though 3 turns may be a possibility I don't think they are sending out as much.  I was actually thinking about this in the back of my mind when Oro Grande was mentioned.  I assume (don't know  for sure) that Oro Grande may be producing cement and taking in coal as well.

      There are a few trains that are on our list (in addition to the grain trains mentioned).  What we could wind up doing is having Victorville serve both as well as industries off to the west as mentioned in the past.  This will at least keep the required demand but it would be distributed a bit further out.

      It again is something that should be added to the To Do List and I'll look into it for next cycle.

    • There is a UVVCPHX on the registry - that runs cement loads from Victorville to Phoenix.  I don't see an inbound with empties (PHXVVC)... maybe we can utilize that train ID to run out the extras as needed?

    • Is VVC Victorville??  Is there any other symbil that has VVC listed.  I know you mentioned Oro Grande which I never noticed before in another symbol.  This again could be a whole other documents as well and then we can add in the TD3 data and see what we have.  Find it strange that it's only 1 train, perhaps they have a big customer down there.  The empties may come in somewhat like they are now on mixed traffic.

      One issue we have right now is the small spawning area from Los Angeles on BNSF.  I'm sure eventually that will be dealt with once Los Angeles is in the picture.  Then we have a whole new world of yards and puzzles to figure out where everything is coming from :)

    • Yeah, the registry had that train listed (in red), and when I looked it up, VVC showed Victorville. Didn't see anything else with VVC.

      I'd say we could use it as a run as needed deal... maybe every other cycle or two. That gets rid of the excess that may accumulate :-)

      I'll hope to look at the numbers on Tuesday for gaps. Work tonight, family get together tomorrow afternoon when I wake up... the overtime shift on Monday(day).

    • There's 57 VIC cars currently in West Colton.  Looks like 50 of them came in on the MYSWC1... not sure if the other 7 were lingering from last time.  4 VIC cars also go to Barstow via the MSDGBAR.

      This cycle, only 26 were tagged out - leaving us with 24 of the 35 extra (24 of the 50 + the 4 from SDG + 7 more that was in WC)  Next cycle, 34 are due to be tagged.  So if the YSWC1 bringsin another 50, we'll have 16 extra, for a total of 51 extra.  They're adding up quick.

      A few cycles ago, there were talks about the YSWC1 being ran twice - not sure if the second one  was deleted or kept - but if that was the case,  that would also contribute to the backlog.

    • I don't recall talk of the 2nd one.  Were going to have to get the data into tables etc. so I can see what is happening and calculate better.  I'm glad we got the numbers etc.  The other thing I have to put into play is the actual waybills and what is coming in.  The RTS current waybill file will have anything where empties are being brought in etc.

    • Giving this thread a bit of a bump as I know it is probably going to slip by for this cycle.  There were other posts a while back talking about some of the other Victorville stuff west of the area.  Perhaps we can go ahead with another proposal similar to the grain if someone would like to start an article on it.  This can be my focus for the month of July (again I think we are pushing it for this month).  

      In the meantime as part of the suggestions and to distribute more of those cement cars, I'm open to having at least some of these cars geting moved into Oro Grande to get rid of some congestion in the area.  At the very least that will give us a start for tagging operations come the August cycle.

      Any other suggestions can either be posted in the forum for discussion, or an article written.  I would recommend at least discussing it first (like we have been).  Then once it seems like a doable option create a formal article so we can link to it.  Again To Do List with other linked articles such as Cargill suggestions and as many forum posts used for reference and discussion makes my life much simpler.  Thanks all for your assistance and support on this.

    • I was actually thinking about doing it for the Victorville Local (July) not as an extra right away.  It's done now as long as Victorville still has plenty of cars for them as well as they are the only ones being tagged at this time.

    • Just on to check out the grain situation and flew by.  48 cars at Oro Grande is good for now.  Victorville of course has quite a bit more.  I'll leave any transfers of Victorville Local heading EB at the job's discretion next cycle.  Remember you will be receiving more empties.  Oro Grande operations will probably not begin until at least August cycle and/or when AI starts.
